About
Who am I?
Hello, my name is Michael Verdecanna and I am a private tutor. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping students achieve their goals. With over 3 years of experience tutoring students of all ages and levels, I have developed a strong set of skills and strategies to help my students succeed.
My educational background consists of an active pursuit in a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering at Stony Brook University, which has given me a solid foundation in many math and science courses. I am also constantly learning and staying up-to-date on the latest teaching techniques and educational research to ensure that I am providing the best possible instruction to my students.
Some of my previous tutoring jobs (Mathnasium & Stony Brook Academic Success and Tutoring Center) have included helping students improve their grades in K-12 math and physics, preparing students for Regents and AP exams, and assisting students with learning disabilities. I have also worked with students to develop study skills and time management techniques to help them become more effective learners.
In my free time, I enjoy skiing (see pictures at bottom) and hiking. I find that these activities help me stay energized and focused, which translates into better tutoring sessions for my students.
I take great pride in the success of my students, and I have seen many of them go on to achieve their academic and personal goals. I am confident that my experience and expertise can help your child reach their own goals, whatever they may be. Thank you for considering me as your child's tutor, and I look forward to working with them!

I have been working on completing my CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) Tutor Trainings at Stony Brook University. I completed Level 1 training last Fall and learned about topics like study strategies, SMART goal setting (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound), and metacognition. I also went through various scenario training as both the tutor and the student to gain a broader perspective on what goes on during a tutoring session. I am currently working on Level 2.
